Chinese investment in Tunisia: $100 million acquisition

Wan Li, the Chinese Ambassador to Tunisia, stated that this week a Chinese company in the sector plans to acquire a cement factory in Tunisia in a deal valued at over 100 million dollars. In an interview with the Tunisian news agency Tap, the ambassador highlighted that “this substantial investment will represent the first direct Chinese investment in Tunisia in recent years” adding that he is “confident that this advanced Chinese company will introduce modern and cutting-edge technologies, upgrade the factory’s equipment, and have a positive impact on the environment“. The ambassador also assured that the investment will help increase the productivity and efficiency of the factory, located near the Tunisian capital. Additionally, the Chinese ambassador emphasized that “this development shows that more Chinese companies are considering investment opportunities in Tunisia. The Chinese government constantly encourages Chinese companies to invest in Tunisia, despite the fact that many of these companies have limited knowledge of Tunisian market regulations“.
